ASUS P5K Pro is okay with old hardware? New ASUS P5K Pro motherboard compatible with old hardware?

Glen C asked:

My Abit AA8 Duramax motherboard has apparently given up on me, and i need to buy a new motherboard. Seeing as its difficult to find this same motherboard for sale, new, I m forced to upgrade. But I need to make sure that all my old hardware will work in the new board I am thinking of buying. Here’s a link to the new ASUS board’s specs: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131275

I have a LGA 775 socket 3.4ghz 800FSB Pentium 4 Processor
1 gig of DDR2 RAM
ATI X800 XT PCI-E 16x video card
250gig Seagate Barracuda HD

Basically I am worried that my LGA 775 800FSB processor will not workin this new Asus P5K Pro motherboard. Any gurus out there willing to lend a helping hand?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Check Asus’s website but from a quick look over, you should be fine. Make sure your case and power supply are correct as well.

I have built a couple of machines with this mobo and had no issues. The RAM should be 667 MHz or 800 MHz.

  2. Yes, it will work.
